True Friendship

Being different, yet so close to others, is a blessing. It is a reflection of God’s wisdom and power. Different people cross our paths. Some come and stay. Some come and go. You don’t always get on with everyone. Rare are those who make you smile when the world falls apart.

Life is an adventure, that gets you through a sieve and a griddle. And while you are being blended with all the spices made of people you meet, feelings you get, smiles you have and tears you cry out, yet the most important spice is the people. The people who don’t just come and go, but leave a print on you heart. You meet some as weird as me, and some as humble as those who would not hurt an ant.

Friendships as all other things in life are created by God, and it all should be seen through God. What is the purpose of having a friend who needs you for worldly life and delusions?

Do you follow wishes of your friends or you are following the things God loves?

It matters whom you let stay in your life, but I have never agreed that your friends do eventually define you. They might have impact on you in the way you don’t want, but if you are a believer who fears God, you will never let yourself to be deceived. Regardless, how good people you have around , you still cannot love anyone more than God.

And God loves you more than anyone else does.

Those who disobey God to please people are the lowest level of people, and there is absolutely nothing bellow it. How dare you turn from Allah just to make your friends, family or colleagues happy?

How do you choose people around you? How do you select them? By them being beautiful or handsome? By them being smart and intelligent? Or by them having strong Imaan and loving God more than they love you?

How you choose your friends ultimately tells about all other things you choose in the life.

I met people who would give anything to make their friends and family pleased with their acts. I have always been wondering why people would go against God, just to satisfy the needs of people around? What for? To look better in someone’s eyes only because they are loved by society who sees people through the eyes of external beauty?

Dragging yourself down to accommodate others will drag you even lower. But dragging yourself to please your Creator can only get you higher.

And still, you choose to beg your friends. You still replace Tahajjud by Saturday night hanging out? You still replace Qur’an by a gossip talk with your friend?

And beside all, there are still those precious. Sometimes I sit back and wonder how can we get on so good with so different minds, people, nationalities, cultures?

Well, it is the way God connects us all. It is what comes from within and shows our inner beauty.

I believe all people are good, as God has created us all that way. But we choose to change. We choose to live the life that does never go with Shariah rules, and is always against God’s commandments. What for?

You don’t know when you are going to die. And this is not something you decide or choose. But there are the things you can decide on and change.

Be the one who reminds his friends about God’s existence and presence. Be the one who reaches people’s heart. Be the one who makes others smile. Be the one who people remember by doing good. Be the one who makes someone’s day brighter. Be the one who brings joy and happiness into others’ lives. Be the change in someone's life.

Having righteous people around would help you change many things. Besides, does it matter how awesome and rich your friend is if he gets you away from Allah?!

Search for the people who will bring happiness into your life through making you closer to the Creator. And do not tighten your relations with people who place everything before God, as no one is worth more than The Almighty.

Always make your final destination the point where you will be closer to God, and on the way pick those who will help you reach the target.

Good friends exist. Best friends exist too. But the love as great as the one from God towards His creations doesn’t. Remember, if you have ever loved so hard and got disappointed, take it easy. There is only one true love in this world. And it is not towards to or from your friends, family members or neighbors. Eventually, the only true love comes from the Creator.

Never waste your time with those who are not worth it. Stay with people who love Allah, and don’t let them go. Those people are worth fighting for, as they are not only your friends in Dunya. Those are people who will be your friends in Jannah, and they are as precious as the shiniest diamond ever found.

Hold them tight.
